The Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta ("CMC-Alberta") is regulated by the Certified Management Consultants Regulation, under the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act. CMCs and FCMCs have been privileged to be members of a respected, self-governing professional association since 1991.

The Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta is the regulatory authority for provisional registrants, CMCs and FCMCs in Alberta. Its role is complemented by CMC-Canada, which provides membership services.

Provincial regulation requires that the Institute be governed by a Board of Directors. Members must abide by professional and ethical standards. The legislation identifies governance committees, such as Registration and Practice Review, and provides for investigation of written complaints, cancellation, suspension and reinstatement of registration.

The terms "Certified Management Consultant" and "Fellow Certified Management Consultant" and their respective initials are protected titles, which cannot be used by those who are not Institute members.

2009 Financial Statement and Appointment of new Treasurer and Secretary

On behalf of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta (CMC-Alberta) Board, we would like to present the completed financial statements for the year 2009. The financial statements have been reviewed and were accepted by the Board at its meeting on June 23, 2010. The financial statements are now available to our members on the national website (click here). It should be noted that approval of the financial statements will take place at the Annual General Meeting of CMC-Alberta to be held this fall.

A few key points to note with respect to the financial statements:

* An increase in membership by 24 to 357 of which 245 are CMC or FCMC members will bring additional revenue to the institute

* Based on current market conditions the one year rolling GIC now has an interest rate of 0.03% from an initial rate of 4%

* Cash on hand during the year 2009 was reduced by about $30,000 primarily due to our investment in the annual conference

* The institute will need to carefully manage future events to ensure a minimum break even result, as the cash on hand at the beginning of the fiscal year has been reduced to approximately $9,500

With the presentation of the 2009 year financial statements, our current treasurer/secretary Russell Mascaren has completed his two year term. On behalf of the members of the Institute and the CMC-Alberta Board of Directors, we would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Russell for his service and contribution to CMC-Alberta.

At its meeting of June 23, 2010, the Board approved the appointment of new treasurer Kerry Braaten. In addition, as Russell also served as Secretary to the Board, that role has now been passed to Paul Avendar (currently a director of the Institute).

Kerry Braaten is a Senior IT Management Consultant in Keen Software Systems consulting group in Calgary. He has over twenty two years of IT professional experience including 14 successful years in coaching and delivery of Project Management (PM) and Project Management Office (PMO) services. His PM experience spans multiple industries: energy; oil and gas services; transportation; technology; government (municipal and provincial); and telecommunications. Kerry has degrees in Computer Science and holds a MBA. In addition, he has a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation and is formally trained in Project Management delivery from Mount Royal College, an affiliate with the Project Management Institute (PMI).

We wish Kerry Braaten & Paul Avendar the very best as they take on these new roles in the Board.
