Jan Westendorp, owner of Kato Design & Photo, is an award-winning book designer and production manager who collaborates with independent authors, trade book publishers, and other publishing organizations.
Twelve years ago, Jan came to book publishing after studying graphic design and typography, following more than 14 years as a post-secondary educator—teaching photography, communications, and media-production courses.
As a visual artist, Jan’s photo and media works have been exhibited locally and internationally, and published in national magazines.
Jan skillfully interweaves her extensive experience in book publishing, design, typography, photography, and visual art to create effective and beautiful book covers and superb interior page layouts.
She also leverages her experience in the book publishing industry to assist indie authors navigate the publishing process.
Notable projects have included business books, corporate celebration books, personal growth/self-help books, biographies, memoirs, photo and art books, fiction, and poetry.
