Ethical Behaviour

(Required for the Entry, Experienced, and Executive streams)

The goal of Ethical Behaviour: Best Practices of Management Consultants is to acquaint consultants with the challenges associated with maintaining professional standards and best practices in the profession. While the course is primarily directed at management consultants, the material is applicable to those offering advisory services in other genres, including accounting, technology, and human resources.

In an interactive setting, participants explore how to avoid, and resolve, ethical dilemmas frequently faced by consultants.

This is a blended course that has three components: a self-paced online module, a 3hr live virtual classroom session and an online exam.

The answers to the following questions, and other thought-provoking issues, are addressed within the course:

  • What is a conflict of interest, and how can it be avoided?
  • If such a conflict does arise, how can it be resolved?
  • What does it mean to treat a client's information as confidential?
  • Is the duty to serve a client absolute?
  • When could this duty to serve the client conflict with one's duty to the profession, the firm and other professionals?
  • How can you limit your legal liability in the process?

Candidates will be notified in writing of their pass/fail within 10 business days of writing the exam. If the grade is a fail, candidates have the option to re-take the course within a specific time period, at an additional cost.

What Are the Pre-requisites?

The course administration is delivered through our online learning platform SmarterU. When you register for the course, our staff will enrol you in the course components on the SmarterU portal. You'll have to create your own profile there. You'll be able to see the upcoming course sessions and the self-paced online module, and once you've completed the virtual class, you'll be enrolled in the exam. You won't be able to complete the exam if you didn't attend the live virtual class.

We use Zoom Meetings for the virtual classroom session. Zoom supports Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS operating systems. For a complete list of system requirements for your Operating System, please visit the following website:

In order to participate fully in the Zoom online class, you will need a reliable internet connection, a working webcam and a computer microphone, a headset mic is not necessary but produces better sound. Participants are expected to talk and engage during the virtual classroom sessions just as conveniently as you would in a regular 'in-person' class. Make sure you test your camera and mic set up before the class.

Additionally, you may want to take notes for some of the breakout activities, so have pen and paper handy or a digital note taking tool of your choice.

Please note that Certification Classes offered by CMC-Canada are non-refundable. Should you become unable to attend a class, you may request your enrollment be rescheduled to a later class date. Reschedule requests must be emailed to no less than 7 days prior to the class start date. We apologize that requests received within 7 days of the scheduled class time may not be honoured.
