CONSULTANTS WHO LOVE CONSULTING – KINDRA HOWARD, CMC, PMP, BRMP

Q1 In brief, describe how you entered the profession of management consulting, or when did you decide that management consulting was a profession that you wanted to enter?

Management Consulting has been an evolution for me. I began my career as a Project Coordinator in the Information Technology space, then worked my way up to Project Manager, and eventually Senior Program Manager. After 12 years in the IT portfolio/program/project management space, the natural next step was management consulting.

Q2 What do you love most about consulting?

I love finding simple solutions to complex problems and delivering tangible value that clients can appreciate. I also love the variety and the ability to select the projects I work on, and clients I work with.

Q3 What do you like the least?

Writing proposals! It's always exciting to win bids, but the work to get there can take weeks or even months.

Q4 What has been your most satisfying engagement and why?

This is a tough one because I take a lot of pride and enjoyment in all of my engagements. But if I had to choose, I would say it was a program rescue that I did a couple years ago. I was able to salvage a client's $11M investment, and "right the ship" on a high-visibility initiative which was very satisfying.

Q5 What personality trait has helped you the most in your career?

My customer service skills. They have been ingrained in me since I was young and have always guided me in the right direction.

Q6 Finally, if you were stranded on a desert island - What is one book and one luxury item you would take with you?

My book would be one of Tom Brown's Survival guides. Luxury items would be kind of pointless on a deserted island, so I'd probably opt for a good piece of cookware!
