Cupric Oxide Market Strategy

Client: Destiny Copper

Consultant: Andrew Penny, CMC, Kingsford Consulting

Company Background

Destiny Copper is a Canadian clean-tech company with an innovative approach to copper extraction that’s both cost-effective and eco-friendly. They focus on recovering copper from overlooked sources like mine tailings and industrial waste, tapping into a growing market driven by the increasing need for copper in electric vehicles, renewable energy, and other green technologies.

By going after these alternative copper supplies, Destiny Copper addresses growing market demand for copper products while significantly reducing the environmental footprint associated with traditional mining methods.

What makes Destiny Copper stand out is their unique, patented process. This produces ultra-pure copper without the heavy environmental and energy costs typical of traditional extraction methods. Unlike conventional smelting or electrochemical processes that need a lot of energy and generate substantial emissions, Destiny Copper uses a chemical process that’s remarkably energy-efficient, no electricity is required. This allows them to produce high-quality copper with significantly less costs compared to incumbent operations. Plus, their system is modular and mobile, which means it can easily be set up even in remote areas, bringing new economic life to rural communities with legacy mine sites or accessible copper deposits.

Kingsford’s Perspective

At the start of the engagement, Destiny Copper’s goal was to obtain a comprehensive market analysis covering cupric oxide, cuprous oxide, and copper carbonate, along with a clear understanding of their total addressable markets. Early in the project, however, we narrowed our focus specifically to cupric oxide—a strategic priority on Destiny’s technology roadmap due to its wide-ranging industrial applications.

The core of our advisory work involved developing a robust assessment of the potential market size for cupric oxide, both globally and specifically within North America. Despite encountering varied and sometimes conflicting market data, we successfully created a demand forecast model that provided a credible outlook for cupric oxide consumption across multiple industries over the next five to ten years. This forecast gave Destiny Copper the confidence that they were pursuing a viable and growing market. It also provided the due diligence required for raising capital. Additionally, we mapped out other key players in the cupric oxide market, identifying their manufacturing techniques, source materials, and end-use applications. Alongside a detailed PESTLE analysis, this competitor and customer mapping enabled Destiny Copper to clearly define and strategically position themselves within this niche but competitive landscape.

Destiny Copper’s Perspective

The MAS project with Kingsford Consulting has significantly enhanced our (Destiny Copper's) ability to clearly and confidently communicate the value of our offering to potential investors, VIP stakeholders, and strategic partners. By providing a conservative, evidence-based analysis, we have successfully clarified the unique aspects and opportunities within this specialized market segment, facilitating deeper investor interest and engagement. Positive feedback from investors and partners has highlighted our strengthened credibility and improved strategic positioning.

"I personally couldn't be happier with the outstanding work done. A huge thank you to Graham and Andrew for their excellent work."
